Throughout the year, the Forum for the Future of Agriculture organises regional conferences and online events to discuss agriculture and the environment at a national level across Europe. On Wednesday, May 31, 2023 we visited Madrid, Spain for our first regional event of the year to be held at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). The meeting was in-person and videos will be available online afterwards.

Ana Rengifo Abbad is a biologist from the Universidad Complutense and is dedicated to conservation, by profession and family. Working in forestry and environmental companies, she became part of the Life Montando Adapt project, to promote the adaptation of meadows in Portugal and Spain to mitigate the consequences of climate change. And in the middle of the pandemic, together with several partners, she created a spin-off called Islas de Corcho Natural, daring to invest all her resources to create employment and promote rural development with this innovative project, which is a magnificent tool for mitigating climate change, generating biodiversity, water filtering, biomass and landscape restoration.

Mónica Andrés Enríquez has served as EVP Europe since July 2021. She has previously held several positions in the company. She was VP Farming Solutions Europe (2020-2021), Project Manager for Yara Europe Strategy and SVP BU South Europe (2019-2020), SVP BU Asia (2017-2019), and Country manager for Spain and Portugal (2013-2016). She was employed by Hydro in 1998 as field agronomist.
Ms. Andrés Enríquez holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Instituto de Empresa Spanish Business School and a degree in Agronomy Engineering from the Spanish Polytechnic University of Engineers (ETSIA).

Pedro Gallardo is the vice president of the Committee of Professional Agricultural Organizations (COPA), the representative body of European farmers. Pedro Gallardo's career in Europe is backed by an experience of more than 15 years during which he has carried out multisectoral tasks in different institutions such as JSCA, COPA-COGECA and FAO.
Pedro Gallardo is also a fourth generation farmer in Andalusia, southern Spain. The farming activity has about 250 hectares and the main crops are: sunflower, rapeseed, wheat, durum wheat and beans. He has managed a farm since 1996 and he has always been involved in ASAJA where he also acquired technical knowledge about agriculture. His family has been a member of ASAJA for three generations.

Since 1 January 2023, Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle has been Director Strategy and policy analysis at DG AGRI (European Commission). From 1 September 2020 to 31 December 2022, she was Director at the General Secretariat of the Council, responsible for Veterinary and Plant Health Questions, Food and Forestry. Between December 2019 and August 2020, she was Deputy Head of Cabinet of the EU Commissioner responsible for agriculture and rural development. Between 2013 and 2018, she was responsible for the implementation of the CAP in France, in her capacity as Director general for Economic and Environmental Performance of Enterprises. Between 2006 and 2013, she was Executive Director of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Prior to that, she was Director General of the Food Department within the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. She also worked at the European Commission from 1991 to 1993.

He has a thorough understanding of global agricultural trends & challenges and speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian fluently.
Robert is passionate about agriculture and working to ensure that farmers can sustainably produce the best quality food as well as providing stability for their families, communities & generations to come.
Robert lives in Madrid and is married with 2 children, his hobbies include reading, travel, food, wine & golf, as well as spending time with his family.

Alberto Arroyo Schnell is Head of Policy and Programme at the European Regional Office of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). He has held leading positions on EU environmental policy for the past 15 years, previously chairing the European Habitats Forum and working at WWF. His current focus is working together with the key sectors related to / impacted by / benefiting from biodiversity and nature, aiming to find ways to achieve the environmental targets jointly and to ensure ownership of these targets by all stakeholders. He has a background in Forestry Engineering.

During these years running Castillo de Canena, Rosa María Vañó has managed to consolidate the international expansion of the company, already available in more than 50 countries; a brilliant growth based on the high quality and prestige of its oils, validated with many national and international awards.
Rosa is member since 2011 of the Georgofilli Florentine Academy (the oldest Agricultural Academy in Europe), member of the Royal Academy of Gastronomy. Councilor of the Caja Sur Foundation and member of the Agri-Food Council of IESE Barcelona, of the Editorial Board of the Jaen newspaper, of the Council of Extra Virgin Alliance (USA), of the Advisory Council of the Interprofessional of Olive Oil and member of the Council of Olivar of the Junta de Andalucía. Rosa also was President of the Andalusian Academy of Gastronomy and Tourism and in 2008 received the Woman of the Year Award of the Year.

Elisa is a journalist (graduate in Information Sciences at the University of Navarra). She is specialized in agriculture and has been working at a trade media paper called Europa Agraria for 15 years (eight of them leading this newspaper). She is focused on written press (on paper or online), and has also experience in television and radio, blogs and podcasts. Since 2013 she is a freelance professional working in the field of communication, collaborating with various companies and media groups of agriculture and food, and with experience in event facilitation. In July 2020, she was elected President of the Association of Agri-Food Journalists of Spain, APAE, and since 2017 she has been co-director of the postgraduate Expert Course in Agri-Food Communication (the only degree in this subject that exists in Spain).
