Throughout the year, the Forum for the Future of Agriculture organises regional conferences and online events to discuss agriculture and the environment at a national level across Europe. On Tuesday, June 3, 2025 we organised an event in Copenhagen, in relation to the Danish Presidency of the EU Council. Jeppe Bruus, Minister for the Green Transition opened the event with a ministerial address.
The agenda below includes the outcomes of the discussion held during the annual conference (April 1, Brussels), with a special focus on “Financing the Transition” issues in relation to the priorities of the Polish and Danish Presidencies. The event included discussions on, among others, the benchmarking system, use of public money, unlocking private incentives, leveraging and de-risking finance, sharing case studies and collaboration between private-public sectors.

Oskar Björling
Portfolio Manager, Syngenta Nordics
Oskar Björling holds an MSc in Agronomy from Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and an MBA from Stockholm School of Economics. He is a farmer's son that brings over a decade of hands-on experience in the development and marketing of innovative products and solutions designed to make farmers' lives easier and their operations more productive, profitable, and sustainable with the ultimate goal of contributing to healthy, affordable and sustainable food for everyone.
With sustainability becoming an increasingly important driver in agriculture, Oskar is dedicated to contribute towards fulfilling Syngenta's aspiration to become a trusted partner that can offer concrete and viable solutions to limit climate emissions and create a better environment. Right now this means developing and shaping the emerging market for biostimulants based on nitrogen fixing bacteria across a broad range of crops, for example grassland where it has been shown to profitably increase yields by 6.4% while simultaneously reducing carbon footprint per unit of feed by 5.7% in Nordic field trials over the past three years.

Niels Peter Nørring

Niels Peter Nørring
Director of Climate and EU Policy, Danish Agriculture and Food Council
Niels Peter Nørring has worked on European and global agriculture- and climate polices since 1985 – for the past 25 years as director in the Danish Agriculture and Food Council (DAFC) that represents Danish farmers and some of Europe’s biggest farmers’ owned cooperatives in the dairy, pork, grains and seed sectors.
2024 DAFC became party to the historic ‘Tripartite Agreement’ between the Danish government, farmers, environmentalists, industry and labor union representatives that establishes the world’s first carbon tax on agriculture livestock emissions, and finances a voluntary, locally driven and inclusive process that is mandated and required to lead to the enactment of some 250.000 hectares of new forest in Denmark, completing the repurposing of some 15 percent of the country’s farm land.
The ‘Tripartite Agreement’ sprung from years of preparatory work. 2019 Nørring championed Danish agriculture’s vision to become climate neutral by 2050 – a first of its kind among farmers and cooperative organizations in the world. Subsequently, he has worked with changing Danish governments to help implement the country’s very ambitious 2030 target of 70% GHG emissions reductions compared to emissions in 1990, including a 55-65% sub-target for agriculture to reduce emissions. In this work his focus has been on increasing production of renewable energy and building solid foundations for carbon sequestration and Power to X industrial clusters, in a manner that does not threaten food production. Niels Peter Nørring has engaged in numerous dialogues and partnerships with governments and NGOs in Denmark and internationally; because high national ambitions only have real climate impact if solutions are shared globally.
Niels Peter Nørring is Climate Director at the Danish Agriculture and Food Council in Copenhagen, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Science from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Denmark. Nørring previously served as Agriculture Attaché at the Danish EU Representation, and as Secretary to the Danish Minister of Agriculture.
