Eduardo Cuoco was born in Naples (Italy) where he studied and successfully completed his MSc in Food Science and Technologies. Successively, he gained a PhD at the Polytechnic University of Marche (IT) and an executive master on Block-chain Technologies: Business Innovation and Application at MIT Sloan (US). He has been involved in organic farming since 1998. During the first career phase (1998/2008), he focused on the regional and national development of the organic policies in Italy, regarding rural development plans, promotional and certification schemes. Furthermore, he also promoted the organic industry in Italy as an innovation broker. Since 2008 he is contributing and serving the European organic sector as staff member of IFOAM Organics Europe where in 2016 he was appointed as Director. Tassos Haniotis is the Director of Strategy, Simplification and Policy Analysis in the Directorate General for Agriculture of the European Commission. He previously held posts as Head of Unit in the Agricultural Policy Analysis and Perspectives unit and the Agricultural Trade Policy Analysis unit in the same Directorate General, as Member and subsequently Deputy Head of the Cabinet of former European Commissioner for Agriculture Franz Fischler (with respective responsibilities the preparation of the 2003 reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, and the agricultural chapter of the Doha WTO Round and the EU-Mercosur negotiations), and as the Agricultural Counsellor of the European Commission’s Delegation in the United States. He holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia, USA, and a B.A. in Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business, in his native Greece. Before joining the European Commission, he spent six months as a visiting Fellow at the Centre for European Agricultural Studies, Wye College, University of London, focusing on EU-US agricultural trade relations in the Uruguay Round of GATT negotiations. Marjon Krol was born on a dairy farm in the South of the Netherlands. After a few years of working in international development cooperation, she has now been working for 20 years in the Southern Agricultural and Horticultural Organisation (ZLTO): an association of farmers in the South of the Netherlands. It is her mission to make our food system more sustainable and to help farmers take steps in that direction by connecting farmers with important developments in market and society, such as growing (urban) populations, the need to address climate change, to reduce food losses and to improve our soils. She has led various projects in the field of organic agriculture, short food supply chains and multifunctional agriculture, at national and EU level. Currently she is leading 2 major European projects on reducing food losses on the farm (the Food Heroes project) and on the development of revenue models for carbon sequestration in agricultural soils (the Carbon Farming project). She is also involved in projects related to the protein shift and the development and implementation of the Biodiversity Monitor in dairy farming in the Netherlands. She represents the Dutch Farmers Organisation LTO Netherlands in the Dutch Sustainable Food Alliance where national organizations of Food Manufacturers, Retailers, Caterers, Horeca and Companies in animal feed collaborate to increase sustainable food chains. Ben has had a long and varied involvement in the New Zealand meat industry having been responsible for activities in Research and Development, Technical Policy, Environmental Policy, Market Access and Advocacy. Currently he manages interactions between the New Zealand Meat Board/Beef + Lamb New Zealand and European (including UK) farmer groups and regulators. He also has involvement on the International Meat Secretariat’s Sustainability and Animal Care Committees, the International Beef Alliance, the FAO Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership (FAO) steering committee, the UECBV Footprint Category Rules Technical Committee and is overseeing Lifecycle Analysis work on sheepmeat and beef production in New Zealand. Dr Janez Potočnik graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. After a successful career starting in 1989 in Slovenia as a researcher at the Institute of Economic Research, Director of the Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development (1994), he was appointed Head of the Negotiating Team for the Accession of Slovenia to the EU (1998). He was also Director of Government Office for European Affairs (2000), Minister Councillor at the Office of the Prime Minister (2001) and Minister responsible for European Affairs (2002). In 2004 he joined the European Commission, first as "shadow Commissioner for Enlargement and then as Commissioner responsible for Science and Research. In 2010 Dr Potočnik became Commissioner for Environment. His term ended in November 2014 and he was appointed as a Co-Chair of UN Environment International Resource Panel and was also appointed as a Chairman of The Forum for the Future of Agriculture and RISE Foundation and a Member of the European Policy Centre's Advisory Council. Bas Rüter is Global Head Sustainability at Rabobank since March 2012. He is responsible for the sustainability strategy, the sustainability policy framework, reporting and sustainable business development within Rabobank Group. As part of his function he is also responsible for the partnerships with WWF, initiated the 1 bln USD pledge for forest protection and sustainable agriculture (AGRI3 fund), acts as chair of the finance working group of the Climate Smart Agriculture program of the WBCSD, member of Rabobanks’ Ethics Committee, chairman of the supervisory Board of Dutch Greentech Fund and SHIFT Invest, chairman of the jury of the Rabobank Sustainable Innovation awards and chairman of the supervisory board of Rabo Groenbank.
